Unit 10 I am going to be a basketball player Language goal:
In this unit, students learn to talk about future intentions.

New language:
I’m going to be a computer programmer. How are you going to do that? I’m going to study computer science. Important words and expressions acting, art school, artist, take lessons, every day, exhibition, pilot, engineer, hard, move, save, town.

Language skill:
Be going to refers to something that happen in the future. The special question of What, When, Where, How. Teaching important points: Talk about future intentions. Teaching difficult points: The use of “be going to”

Teaching steps: Step 1 Revision
Ask students some questions: 1.What are you doing this weekend? 2 .When are you going? 3 .Where are you going?

Circle the - ing in each sentence. Explain:We use -ing words to talk about things that are going to happen in the future.We are sure these things will happen.

Step 2 Presentation
Say:We are students now.Please answer my questions. (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) What are you going to do after leaving the middle school? What are you going to do after leaving the high school? What are you going to be when you grow up? Do you want to be a teacher /a soldier…when you grow up? How many of you want to be a …?

Discuss with your partner .Fill in the chart with information about you are going to be Activity 1 Show the target language :What are you going to be when you grow up? Activity 2 Pairwork to ask and answer .As students write ,move around the room offering help if it is needed. Point out the sample conversation .Ask two students to read it to the class .After practising ,ask some pairs to say their conversations to the class .

Step 3 Groupwork
Aim :use the target language to make their own conversation . Beijing is hosting the 2008 Olympic Game .What can you and you classmates do to help make the Olympics a success?Make a list with “be going to walk around the room and give support as needed Announce the winner

Activity 1: Ask some students these questions. 1 What are you going to be when you grow up? 2 How are you going to do that? 3 Where are you going to work? B:I’m going to write articles and send them to magazines and newspaper. A:Where are you going to work? B:I’m not sure yet.Maybe Beijing or Shanghai. Activity3: Show some pictures. Explain that promise you make to yourself at New Year are called New Year’s resolutions Activity 2:Point to the resolutions and ask different students to explain in their own words what each one means. Activity 3: Read the information.Then ask students to match the phrases and pictures on their own.Finally check the answers.

Activity 3b:Read the instructions. Have students turn back to page 62 and call some individuals to say each person’s name and what that person’s resolution was. Point to the magazine article like this one.Tell about Lucy’s,Kim’s,and Manuel’s resolutions. Tell how they going to make their resolutions work. Activity 3c:Ask some students to tell the class their New Year’s resolutions. Ask students to write about their resolutions on their own.

Step 4 Practice
Ask a student to read the instruction and the example answer for the class. Ask: What else are you going to do make the city cleaner? Make sure students are using be going to correctly in their answers. Divide students into small groups to do the activity.Walk around the class offering language support where necessary.

Step 5 Consolidation
Say, Please turn to Page 64, Selfcheck 1. Ask students to fill in their blanks on their own. Pay attention:In some areas, students may need to use another form of the word.
