Word power
Boys and girls, wehave dealt with thedifferences and similarities about schoollife between China and UK. I think you have had a better understanding of the reading material. Do you like your schoollife? Here aresomepictures for you to appreciate.

What can you see in the picture?Which aspect or factor attracts you most and causes you to study in our school?

We students in our schoolcan be encouraged to study better and harder with such beautiful and meaningful surroundings) Today wewill cometo Word Power.This section deals with words and expressions related to school facilities. Familiarize yourselves with the schoolfacilities and review expressions of asking and answering the way. Parts Aand B involve activities that aim to activate your relative prior knowledge. Part Cis

designed to reinforcethevocabulary involved in Parts A and B. Part D aims to expand and evaluate your
vocabulary by doing amatching exercise. You arenot only to expand your related vocabulary but also to apply them in practical usage. Step1: Brainstorming

1. Thinking about the following topic:

Schoolplays an important part in children’s growing-up. When you finished your junior study, your parents and you all had a careful and thoughtful consideration about which senior high schoolsuited you best or which senior high schoolcould give you the best education and provide thebest environment. So can you tell mewhich aspect or factor attracts you most and causes you to study here?(Theteacher

encourages students to express genuinely about their choices.)
2.Recalling thefirst day to school Do you still remember the first day you cameto this school?How did you find your way around?

Usually, if you don’t know your way, what will you do? Do you ask others for help? Now think about the patterns you learned in junior high. Excuseme, can you tell me theway to...? Excuseme, which is thenearest way to...? Excuseme, how can I get to/arrive at/reach... ?

Turn right/left, and walk straight on.
At theend of the first/second crossing, you will find it on your right/left. You can’t miss it. Walk towards/past…and then walk between..., and you will find…at theend of the road.

3. Dealing with the map Focus on themap first and familiarize yourselves with each building. Now read Wei Hua’s thoughts carefully and mark her routes on the map. Pay attention to Wei Hua’s expressions and try to learn the usageof thesephrases. Step2: Vocabulary learning 1. Dealing with B

Deal with Part B individually according to theinstructions and writea description of thequickest way to
get from thedormitories to Classroom 4. Then report your answers to theclass. Sample answers If you are standing at thedoor of the dormiories, first turn right and go past the medical centreand

the gym, then turn left and walk until the end of theroad. Classroom 4 is on your left. (If possible, the teacher can design somesimilar exercises to theone above for students to practise. For example, the teacher can ask students to mark the shortest way from thesciencelaboratory to Classrooms 16-25. This exerciseaims to help students to useproper expressions while finding the way.) 2. Dealing with A and Bfor homework

Deal with Part A on page85 in Workbook. After reading theletter, you will know how to writea noteto

4. Dealing with D
Have ever been to a gym?If not, try to imagine what kinds of equipment areusually provided in agym and why gyms arepopular nowadays.

( a. Theteacher can play somevideos for students to watch and meanwhile teach them how to say these pieces of equipment in English. Then ask students to finish Part D. b. If possible, takestudents to a gym to have thelesson. While teaching, the teacher can invite students to do someperformances on theequipment and meanwhile theteacher instructs students in English how to usethis equipment.

c. Ask students to discuss thefollowing questions: Do you think having a gym is an important factor for students when choosing aschool?Why are moreand morekey schools spending a large amount of money
